Wedding Flowers Trend in a Vintage Direction

You’ve chosen a vintage, old glam wedding theme. You have the perfect Gown, the vintage-chic color scheme and you’re about to check flowers off your wedding to-do list. You confidently walk into the florist and are suddenly overwhelmed by the stunning, but vast amount of flower choices at your fingertips. The Wedding of your dreams suddenly became the wedding of your nightmares!
How can you make decisions in floral that reflect who you are when you know absolutely nothing about flowers? For answers to this question I have turned to florist Dana Lew, a high-end floral designer based in the Midwest. Dana explained in keeping with a vintage wedding style you have many beautiful and affordable options available.
Flower options for a Vintage Wedding
“Gathering something old has become front and center,” Dana says. This even translates to the bridal bouquet. Gardenias, Peonies, Lily of the Valley and even inexpensive yet, classic daisies are garnering new attention in the wedding bouquet. These fragrant flowers our grandmothers may have used really add panache and charm to the typical floral options.
Peonies and Gardenias come in a wide range of vibrant colors. When mixed with the more subtle tones of a lily or a daisy you can really create a feminine and lovely vintage bouquets and centerpieces.
Bring on the Lace
When you look back to photos of Great Grandma’s beautiful gown you will notice the heavy use of lace. Incorporating this into your floral arrangements can also add to your vintage vibe. Using lace on the table center or wrapping bouquets in lace are great ways to add texture and sophistication to your theme.
Jewels for Your Bouquet
Floral designer Dana also discussed the elegance of adding jewelry to your flowers. “You jeweled up your neck, your tables and now you can even add dazzle to your handheld bouquet through the use of floral ‘jewels’. Many designers are now creating beautiful, handmade pieces that can easily be added to your special day and continue to add to that vintage vibe.
The best part of choosing jewels for your bouquet is the ability to hold on to this keep sake long after the flowers have dried and the gown has been put in the closet. It can become a family heirloom, a story to be shared with family and friends as well as a beautiful, one of a kind addition to your wedding photos.

Should I Hire a Wedding Planner?

Reasons to Work With a Wedding Planner
Your wedding is going to be one of the most special and important days of your life. For the newly engaged, planning the wedding elicits excitement, discussion, and for some, anxiety. Have a big family? A pushy mother in law? Debates over venues? Simply too busy to make decisions about the perfect bouquet? Consider working with a wedding planner. There are many reasons to outsource some of the work to another person.
Wedding Planners Relieve Pressure
If you're completely overwhelmed by your big day, a wedding planner has got the tools to help you manage your everyday life while only being intimately involved in major decisions. As experts, wedding planners are familiar with the details of a wedding and are also clued in to common mistakes or wedding day blunders. From start to finish, planners are prepared to make your wedding day happen and keep close to your dream event. If snags arise, as they often do, a planner is already prepared to help fix those problems as quickly as possible.
Wedding Planners are In Your Corner
If you're dealing with numerous personalities chipping in their input for your big day, it's nice to have someone in your corner advocating entirely for what YOU want. Most planners have experience dealing with difficult families and know tactful ways to say "no". Whether it's time to sit down and choose centerpieces or if you just need a venting session from a neutral third party, your wedding planner can step in to save the day.
Wedding Planners Make Sure It's All Done on Time
When you meet with a wedding planner, they'll create a tactical "plan of attack" for each month and/or week leading up to the big event. When it's written down and pieced out, you're less likely to feel overwhelmed by all the wedding activities. It's helpful to have another person on deck to remind you about smaller details that might otherwise slip your mind.
Wedding Planners As Day Of Assistants
On your big day, of course you'll have friends and family on tap to support you, but think about the fact that your wedding planner has been through a myriad of weddings (some of which suffered complete disasters like fallen cakes or injured wedding party members) and they will be able to keep your nerves settled no matter what obstacles come your way.
A wedding planner is a surefire way to take care of details if you're too busy or overwhelmed to handle the responsibility of planning your wedding. Consider the benefits of working with a team of experts to pull off your very special day!

When Place Cards Meet Wedding Favors…

As you have probably already figured out from Pinterest and your collection of bridal magazines, place cards aren’t necessarily a wedding requirement (especially if your reception will be fairly informal) but the possibilities are so limitless that many brides choose to use them anyway as a fun excuse to get crafty. Formal folded place cards decorated with calligraphy do still exist, but trendier alternatives have come onto the scene. These days, place cards can be nearly anything--bars of soap, bottles of beer, boxes of cookies or candies, and more. As long as a guest’s name can appear on it, then you can probably use it as a place card.
Wedding favors can also be just as creative. Jordan almonds are no longer a necessity—you can give your guests nearly anything that you want. Whatever they are, family and friends really do appreciate those “tokens of appreciation,” so why not make them do double-duty? Combining your place cards with your wedding favors is not only a great way to show off your creative side, it’s a good way to help trim your wedding budget.

Flowers to Go

Miniature apothecary bottles, which can be ordered online or found at many craft stores, can serve as small vases. Attach labels with your guests’ names or tie name tags to each bottle and fill them with water the evening before your wedding to save time. Insert one or two blooms into each, and voila! Your guests will all have adorable vases—which will also decorate your reception tables—to take home and know where they are supposed to sit.

Personalized Candy Jars

Cellophane bags of candy are fine, but miniature glass jars are relatively inexpensive and a lot classier. Fill with butter mints, M&Ms, starlight mints, or whatever candies you prefer. Place labels bearing each guest’s name on the front and sit at every place sitting.

Mini Bottles of Wine

If you are not opposed to having alcohol at your wedding reception, consider using miniature bottles of wine as your place cards/wedding favors. Generally available in four to six ounce bottles, they are the perfect size to place at each seat. Cover the existing labels by wrapping cardstock that contains guests’ names around each bottle and simply tape down the back to secure. If children will be present, make similar kid-friendly favors using root beer or other bottled sodas! And gently remind your guests to enjoy their wine at home—they should never drink and drive!

Take-Out Boxes

Take-out boxes that resemble the ones from Chinese restaurants can be used for a variety of purposes. They are available in multiple colors and can hold nearly anything you can imagine. Fill them with wrapped candies, cookies, soaps or other small toiletries, a candle or two, or whatever your heart desires. Attach a name tag with a number to each box handle and display them at the reception entryway. Guests can find their box, read their number, and know which table they should sit at.

Specialty Items

If you aren’t quite sure what to use as your place cards and wedding favors, consider contacting B In The Center BITC’s Barbara Alexander for suggestions. Her custom-designed, hand-made centerpieces and décor items can serve many purposes—such as adding a touch of class to your wedding reception tables.

Affordable Yet Elegant Wedding Centerpiece Ideas

Even though some popular wedding organizers are constantly in high demand, more and more couples are planning their own weddings and it’s easy to understand why. Not only can a Do It Yourself wedding offer substantial savings, it can give you the ability to add your own personal touch to everything from your save the date cards and invitations to the wedding favors.

Create Centerpieces They’ll Remember

The wedding reception is nearly as important as the ceremony itself. After all, it is where your family and friends will celebrate your new union with plenty of fun, food, and entertainment! Wedding reception tables can range from overly schmaltzy to gracefully simple, but one thing is for certain: it’s completely possible to create your own elegant centerpieces that won’t break the bank. The possibilities are nearly limitless, but these five centerpiece ideas can be incorporated into just about any wedding, regardless of your budget, color scheme, and overall wedding theme:
  1. Mismatched vintage vases full of wildflowers. Spend a day visiting discount stores, flea markets, or local thrift stores to find a variety of non-matching vases of all shapes, sizes, and colors. Display multiple vases of wildflowers on all of the tables—your local florist can help advise you on which are in season and therefore get you the most bang for your buck.
  2. Candle arrangement. A variety of clear glasses and candle holders can be used to create custom candle arrangements for the center of each table. White or ivory candles are a chic choice, but many brides prefer to use candles that match their bridesmaids’ gowns. Whatever you decide, be sure to choose candles with burn times long enough to last throughout your entire reception. As a precaution, you may want to avoid scented candles, as they may irritate allergies in guests with sensitive noses.
  3. Bowls of fruit or vegetables. Some companies create commercial fruit bouquets, which are beautiful yet have hefty price tags. You can easily make your own centerpieces from fruits and even veggies, such as pumpkins and gourds. Not only can glass bowls of fruits and vegetables add color, depth and beauty to each table, guests can enjoy the fruit at the reception or take pieces home for later. If you have plenty of leftovers after the ceremony, consider donating them to local food banks.
  4. Wedding favor centerpiece. Wedding favors are often distributed as the reception winds down and guests prepare to head home, but the favors can also be used as decorations. Display whatever goodies you are giving your friends and family on a platter in the center of each table or on a tiered holder, such as a cake stand. Small sacks of candies embellished with ribbon look beautiful when they are placed on display.
  5. Fishbowls. One final centerpiece suggestion is to place two to three fishbowls on each table—no fish required. Just place pebbles or gravel at the bottom, fill with water, and add a floating candle if desired. And if you wish to distinguish the bridal party’s tables from the wedding guests’ tables, consider using handmade centerpieces from B In The Center BITC. Your guests will be amazed and your special day will seem even more special.
